The first part of my life was spent in South and North America, moving from country to country, state to state, attending over 14 schools. In college, I took a ceramics class and quickly became obsessed with clay. The plastic nature of the material to become anything the maker desires is compelling for me. The fact that through high heat this material becomes solid and permanent as rock is another reason that I am fascinated with the entire process of creating with clay.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Connecticut State University in 1989. At school I became a lab assistant, which gave me access to all of the technical aspects of maintaining a studio and firing kilns. I was really taken with Raku firing during that time and soon after college was off to Columbus, Ohio to start a family and pottery business. In 1993 I returned to Connecticut to start a new life as a single parent of two beautiful daughters. By 1994 I had established a studio in New Haven, Connecticut with my studio partner and fellow lab assistant, Chris Alexiades. I also took a position as resident potter at Brookfield Craft Center and took my first workshop at the Peter Callas Studio in Belvedere, New Jersey.

At Brookfield Craft Center I have developed the ceramics program and become the Education Director, for which I schedule over 400 classes a year. In 1995 I started teaching for my alma mater and was an adjunct professor for nine years. Probably the most important event was walking through the barn doors of Peter Callas' studio for the first time with studio partner Chris. We were just fascinated to see Peter Voulkos working and all of the wood-fired art belonging to Callas and Voulkos on display in the studio. We spent the next seven years attending every summer workshop that Callas hosted for Voulkos and other ceramic masters and also helping to fire his kiln. In 2005, I decided to concentrate my studio work in PA moved out of the New Haven studio. I also created a gallery space in what we call the "Doll House" (the original 1800's cottage on the property). This past year I was accepted into the MFA program at Hood College in Frederick, Maryland and am enjoying every minute of this new course of study. Feel free to contact me if you would like to see the work.
